OTT, Thomas / SWIACZNY, Frank (1998): The analysis of cultural landscape change: A GIS approach for the handling of spatio-temporal data. History and Computing 10 (1-3), 37-49
The application of GIS technology offers a number of valuable and important possibilities for the analysis of the cultural landscape change. Nevertheless, there still is a wide variety of technical and methodical problems to be solved during a pilot study, which would test the methods and techniques described in the article. As the findings of this paper are of exemplary character, special attention must be paid in regard to the data sources as well as the integration of external model conceptions and the derivation of thematic layers. The thorough discussion and evaluation of these key elements is the most important requirement for the successful modeling and implementation of a GIS for the analysis of the cultural landscape change.
