Diese entmilitarisierte Zone ist 248 Kilometer lang und ungef\u00e4hr vier Kilometer breit. In ihrer Mitte verl\u00e4uft die Milit\u00e4rische Demarkationslinie (MDL), de facto die Grenze zwischen Nord- und S\u00fcdkorea. Sie wurde nach dem drei Jahre dauernden Koreakrieg im Jahre 1953 eingerichtet und l\u00e4uft von West-S\u00fcdwest nach Ost-Nordost quer \u00fcber die Halbinsel, wobei sie n\u00f6rdlich von Seoul den 38. Breitengrad schneidet, der bis zum Kriegsausbruch die Grenze zwischen beiden Staaten bildete. Besonders ist mir die Freiheitsbr\u00fccke \u00fcber den Imjin-Flu\u00df nahe der Stadt Paju in Erinnerung geblieben. Am Grenzzaun auf dieser ehemaligen Eisenbahnbr\u00fccke befestigen die S\u00fcdkoreaner Flaggen, bunte B\u00e4nder und Botschaften an ihre Angeh\u00f6rigen im Norden.<\/p>\n<div class=\"thumb-gallery
