Das 1929 zum Nationalpark erhobene Schutzgebiet hat seinen Namen von der Teton-Kette, ein in Nord-S\u00fcd-Richtung verlaufender Gebirgszug, der sich ohne Vorgebirge zweitausend Meter aus der weiten Talebene des Jackson Hole erhebt. Der h\u00f6chste Gipfel, der Grand Teton, hat eine H\u00f6he von 4.199 Meter. Die Herkunft des Namens der Gebirgskette wird franz\u00f6sischen Trappern zugeschrieben, die den Snake River auf einer Expedition der North West Company im fr\u00fchen 19. Jahrhundert erkundeten und die Berge nach ihrer Form als <em>les trois t\u00e9tons<\/em> (&#8222;drei Br\u00fcste&#8220;) bezeichneten.<\/p>\n<div class=\"thumb-gallery gallery ts-mfp-gallery
