Das Schutzgebiet wurde 1936 zum National Monument und 1994 zum Nationalpark erkl\u00e4rt. Es\u00a0umfasst eine W\u00fcstenlandschaft im S\u00fcdosten Kaliforniens, die den \u00dcbergang zwischen der Mojave-W\u00fcste und der Colorado-W\u00fcste bildet. Der Park ist nach der auff\u00e4lligen, im Englischen \u201eJoshua Tree\u201c genannten Josua-Palmlilie (<em>Yucca brevifolia<\/em>) benannt, der gr\u00f6\u00dften Art der Gattung der Palmlilien (<em>Yucca<\/em>). Neben den Joshuabaum-W\u00e4ldern bietet der Park interessanteste geologischen Formationen. Es herrschen kahle Felsen aus biotitreichem Monzogranit vor, die in der Regel in einzelne Felsformationen und Inselberge aufgebrochen sind.<\/p>\n<div class=\"thumb-gallery gallery ts-mfp-gallery
