Als Ausgangshypothese wurde dabei unterstellt, dass der \u00f6konomische Globalisierungsprozess mit seinen sozialen Folgen zu einer Verringerung der Unterschiede zwischen beiden Gesellschaftssystemen und ihren r\u00e4umlichen (Stadt-) Strukturen f\u00fchrt. Da beide St\u00e4dte zahlreiche Gemeinsamkeiten aufweisen, war es m\u00f6glich, konvergente und divergente Faktoren der Stadtentwicklung zu identifizieren, ohne dass der Vergleich durch externe Einfl\u00fcsse behindert wurde.
