Jahrhunderts finden sich die ersten Hinweise auf Auswanderungen aus der Pfalz nach \u00dcbersee. Hugenotten und Mennoniten, die erst einige Jahre oder Jahrzehnte in der Pfalz gelebt hatten, waren die Vorreiter. Abraham Hasbrouck vom Deutschhof bei Bergzabern lie\u00df sich 1675 mit mehreren hugenottischen Familien im Tal des Hudson in der englischen Kolonie New York nieder. Schon 1660 hatte sich sein Bruder, der aus Calais stammende Jean Hasbrouck, nach einem kurzen Aufenthalt in der Kurpfalz, zusammen mit dem aus dem Artois geb\u00fcrtigen Mannheimer B\u00fcrger Mathieu Planchan und dessen Schwiegersohn Louis du Bois (Dubois) in Hurley am Hudson angesiedelt. 1677 kauften Abraham Hasbrouck und andere hugenottische Familien ein St\u00fcck Land und bauten sich hier eine Siedlung. In Erinnerung an ihre Zwischenheimat, die ihnen als Fl\u00fcchtlinge Gastfreundschaft gew\u00e4hrt hatte, nannten sie ihre Gr\u00fcndung &#8222;New Paltz&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Unter\u00a0<a
