New York City, the „big apple“, the „city that never sleeps“, eine Stadt die eher f\u00fcr ihre orangefarbenen Taxis und silbernen Subway-Z\u00fcge denn als Fahrradstadt bekannt ist. So war ich auch bei meinem dritten Besuch eher skeptisch, was das Radfahren in der Millionenmetropole am Hudson angeht. Doch in den letzten Jahren hat sich einiges getan: ein differenziertes Radwegenetz wurde geplant und umgesetzt, zudem wurde ein Leihradsystem aufgebaut, das sich bei Einheimischen und Besuchern einer wachsenden Popularit\u00e4t erfreut und sich – zumindest in den w\u00e4rmeren Jahreszeiten – als ernstzunehmende Alternative zu \u00d6PNV und\u00a0 Taxis etabliert hat.<\/p>\n

Das Radwegenetz<\/h4>\n

Auf der Website des New Yorker Department of Transportation<\/a> ist eine Karte des Radwegenetzes als PDF erh\u00e4ltlich. Gedruckte Faltkarten bekommt man an verschiedenen Ausgabestellen in New York oder kostenlos per Post (4-6 Wochen Lieferzeit nach Europa einkalkulieren!).<\/p>\n

Lessons learnt<\/h4>\n

Entscheidender Faktor f\u00fcr den Erfolg des Leihradsystems ist m.E. die hohe Dichte der Stationen. In Manhattan und den angrenzenden Teilen der anderen Boroughs findet man ein eng gekn\u00fcpftes Netz an Docks, das den Stadtraum komplett abdeckt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
